Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals (RR), captain was penalized INR 12 Lakhs for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Captain Samson, Rajasthan Royals’ skipper, was penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate. A team must finish their 20-over quota in the allotted time of 90 minutes.

Royal Challengers Bangalore was the other team that has been penalized for slow over-rate in IPL 2023. Faf du Plessis was penalized INR 125,000 for slow over-rate in a match against Lucknow Super Giants.

“Rajasthan Royals were fined for slow over-rate in their TATA Indian Premier League 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings, Chepauk on Wednesday,” said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

It said that it was captain Sanju Samson’s first offense of the season in accordance with the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offences.

It is worth noting that if Samson and du Plessis, the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offenses, are broken again this season, they’ll be fined INR24 lakhs. Their teammates will have to pay INR 65,000 or 25% of their match fees, depending on which is lower. The captain will be fined INR 30 lakh and banned for one match.

The 10 remaining players will receive a fine of INR 12 lakh, or 50% of their match fees, depending on which is lower.

CSK loses to Rajasthan at their den

The match between CSK and RR ended with the Sanju Samson-led team beating the four-time champions by three runs in their own den. With this win, Rajasthan made history as the only team other than Mumbai Indians to beat CSK at Chepauk over the past ten years. It was also RR’s first victory against CSK at Chepauk since 2008.
